  5. Shark Bay
  6. Peaceful Bay

1. Sandy Cape, Jurien Bay

Sandy Cape Recreation Park is a top choice and my personal favourite for anyone seeking white sands, vast 4wd tracks and true beach style camping near Jurien Bay.

Highlights:

  • Accessibility: Easily reached with a 4WD, this spot offers plenty of sandy tracks leading directly to beachside camping areas.
  • Activities: Perfect for swimming, snorkelling, beachcombing, and sandboarding on the nearby dunes.
  • 4WD Tips: Lower your tire pressure to around the 20psi range to handle the soft sand better and bring recovery gear for added safety.
  • Convenience: Only 220 km from Perrth and close to Jurien bay for local shops and amenities.
  • Beginner Friendly Tracks: The sand tracks here are in the firm-soft range and offer less experienced off-roaders plenty of space and fun for driving.

The park’s coastal dunes and crystal-clear waters make it a paradise for off-road enthusiasts. Using a reliable 4×4 hire, you can traverse the sandy terrain with ease, setting up camp right by the water’s edge for a true outdoor experience.

The main campsite is accessible by all vehicles, however A 4×4 is absolutely necessary for the private beach camping spots, and highly recommended if you’re looking for a bit of privacy, as when we visited, we drove down the beach for almost 5 kilometres without seeing a single other camper!

If you fancy a little more luxury in your camping trips, Jurien Bay Tourist Park is only a 15-minute drive down the road. I will admit after a week we were dreaming of a hot shower, so our last two days of camping we rented a campsite here as a hub and drove to Sandy Cape in the mornings to spend the day’s beach camping.

Highly recommended if you want a bit of convenience while still getting the experience of beach camping with plenty of 4×4 beach driving.

2. Parry Beach, Denmark

Parry Beach in Denmark is a hidden gem for campers looking to enjoy the raw beauty of the southern WA  coast.

Highlights:

  • Secluded Spot: Perfect for those seeking solitude and a peaceful camping experience.
  • Natural Environment: Enjoy the lush greenery and ocean breeze.
  • 4WD Tips: If you don’t own a 4×4 a 4WD rental is recommended for accessing the best remote camping spots along the beach.

With its picturesque views and serene environment, Parry Beach is ideal for both novice and experienced campers. Your 4WD hire will help you access this beautiful stretch of coastline with ease, making your beach camping experience unforgettable.

3. Red Bluff

Red Bluff is the ultimate beach camping destination for those looking to blend rugged adventure with breathtaking scenery.

Highlights:

  • Scenic Beauty: Known for its striking red cliffs contrasting against the blue Indian Ocean.
  • Off-road Access: Requires a capable 4×4 to navigate the rough tracks leading to the camping area.
  • Ideal For: Experienced off-roaders who enjoy secluded and less-crowded locations.

Red Bluff’s remote beauty and stunning landscape make it an ideal spot for those looking to escape into nature. A sturdy 4WD hire is essential to tackle the challenging terrains, but the rewards are well worth the effort.

4. Nyinggulara National Park (Ningaloo Reef)

Nyinggulara National Park is home to Ningaloo Reef, one of the best places in the world for marine wildlife encounters.

Highlights:

  • Marine Life: Snorkel or dive with manta rays, turtles, and an array of vibrant coral species.
  • Camping: Beachside campsites are perfect for early morning dives and stunning sunsets.
  • 4WD Accessibility: Use a 4WD rental to navigate the unsealed tracks leading to the coast.

With its proximity to the reef, this park offers some of the most immersive snorkelling and diving experiences. Having a 4WD allows you to explore beyond the beaten path, reaching hidden coves and less-visited sections of the coast.

5. Shark Bay

Shark Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a unique blend of marine life, stunning beaches, and outback wilderness.

Highlights:

  • Varied Landscape: Features beaches, dunes, and rocky outcrops ideal for 4WD exploration.
  • Must-See: Visit the famous Shell Beach and enjoy its natural beauty.
  • 4WD Insight: Ensure your 4WD rental is equipped with beach driving essentials as conditions can vary greatly.

This area is perfect for both wildlife lovers and adventurers, with its diverse range of habitats. Hiring a 4WD is the best way to experience everything Shark Bay has to offer, from secluded beach spots to epic coastal views.

7. Coral Bay

Situated on WA Coral Coast, Coral Bay offers a perfect mix of calm, shallow waters and direct access to the Ningaloo Reef.

Highlights:

  • Family-Friendly: Ideal for kids and snorkelers looking to explore the reef.
  • Activities: Snorkeling, kayaking, and easy 4WD trails.

Not to be confused with Lucky Bay, Esperance, Lucky Bay in Kalbarri is the perfect destination for those looking to combine coastal views with some off-road fun.

Kalbarri’s Lucky Bay offers a fantastic beachside location with opportunities for fishing and swimming. With your 4WD rental, you can easily navigate the sandy tracks and find the best spot for setting up your camp.

10. Lucky Bay, Cape Le Grand National Park, Esperance

Let’s not kid ourselves. You can’t have a beach camping list in WA without mentioning the beach voted #1 best beach in the world. Lucky Bay Esperance in Cape Le Grand National Park is famed for its dazzling white sands and turquoise waters, offering some of the most visually awe inspiring beach camping in WA.

Highlights:

  • Kangaroo Sightings: It’s not unusual to spot kangaroos lazing on the beach, adding to the location’s unique charm.
  • Perfect for: Both seasoned campers and beginners with a 4WD rental.
  • 4WD Advice: Use low-range gears to navigate soft sand patches and avoid getting bogged.

This beach is well-known as one of the whitest in Australia, and with the convenience of a 4WD rental, you’ll be able to reach the most picturesque spots with ease. Be prepared for stunning coastal views, excellent fishing, and spectacular sunrise photography opportunities.

It’s important to note that the water is quite cold most of the year round and can dip to 15 degrees in the winter, so while the views are stunning all year round, if you’re a winter camper, be prepared for some chilly waters!
